A new chapter has begun for children in rural Montserrado County with the opening of a community school supported by the African Women & Children Empowerment Initiative (AWOCHI).
For years, families in this area have struggled with limited access to quality education. Many children were forced to walk long distances to reach the nearest school, while others simply stayed home because the journey was too far or too unsafe. The new school changes that reality.
Built in partnership with local leaders and supported by AWOCHI’s education program, the school provides safe classrooms, trained teachers, and learning materials for hundreds of children who previously had no nearby option. Parents in the community have already expressed excitement and relief, knowing their children will now have a chance to learn in a supportive environment.
Education is a core part of AWOCHI’s mission to empower women and children across Liberia. By investing in schools, the organization not only gives children the tools to succeed but also strengthens families and communities for the future.
The school will also serve as a hub for community activities, including literacy workshops for parents and after-school programs that keep children engaged and safe. AWOCHI is working closely with residents to ensure the school becomes a lasting foundation for opportunity in Montserrado County.
“This school is more than just a building,” an AWOCHI spokesperson said. “It represents hope, access, and a brighter path forward for children who deserve every opportunity to learn and thrive.”
AWOCHI invites supporters, partners, and friends to join in celebrating this milestone and to continue working together toward a Liberia where every child has access to quality education.
