For more than fifteen years, Marlee Yekeh Boakai has stood at the heart of service and justice, committed to transforming lives and breaking cycles of neglect, violence, and inequality. Over the last three years, she has returned to Liberia with fierce dedication, devoting her time, energy, and voice to causes that uplift women, protect children, and give young people the tools to thrive. She is the Founder and Executive Director of AWOCHI, an initiative focused on advancing the safety, dignity, and potential of women and children across Liberia and the continent. Through this work, Marlee leads with courage and compassion, building programs that reach deep into underserved communities and push systems to respond with care and accountability. Her humanitarian journey is shaped by years of frontline experience in the United States, including her role with Child Protective Services in Philadelphia, where she led investigations into child abuse, advocated for at-risk families, and strengthened responses across agencies. Her foundation in patient relations, case management, and public health continues to inform the way she builds trust, systems, and solutions in Liberia. Marlee is not afraid to speak truth in spaces where silence has harmed. Whether she is creating partnerships, mentoring girls, mobilizing resources, or challenging policies that fail vulnerable groups, her work is rooted in action and driven by love for her country and its people.
